Rotary Club of Ashburton Plains
Honours Longstanding Member with Honorary Membership

Today we were proud to present Malcolm Tarbotton with an Honorary Membership at a special function held today in recognition of his outstanding service to Rotary over more than five decades.
Malcolm, who recently celebrated his 83rd birthday, joined the club in May 1974 and has remained a dedicated and active member ever since. For over 50 years, he has enthusiastically participated in a wide range of club projects, notably the annual Christmas potato fundraiser—helping grow, dig, bag, and sell potatoes—as well as delivering countless bales of pea and linseed straw to gardeners across the district.
A passionate advocate for Rotary, Malcolm has played a key role in encouraging others to join and contribute to the organisation’s mission of service above self.
He has served the club with distinction, holding the position of President twice (1989–1990 and 2000–2001), and more recently as Secretary from 2020 to 2022.
In recognition of his exceptional contributions, Malcolm was named a Paul Harris Fellow in 1996, received a Sapphire Pin in 2008, and was honoured with a Double Sapphire Pin in 2024.
Malcolm Tarbotton’s commitment, leadership, and community spirit embody the true values of Rotary, and the club is delighted to honour his legacy with this well-deserved recognition.
