Starship Classic Car Rally Fund Raiser
On Sunday 28th April the Ashburton Plain Rotary held their Starship Classic Car Rally. Cars of all makes and models assembled for the event at the Ashburton Show Grounds for a cup of tea and judging of the different categories by Bernard Egan and Roger Hart, two local car enthusiasts. 166 cars left the show grounds for Surrey Hills Station, Mount Somers a distance of 43km arriving at our hosts the Grigg Family. After a picnic lunch on a magnificent day and setting surrounded by mature trees near the homestead. Prizes were given to all the category’s winners. A meat raffle was drawn sponsored by ANZCO Food and Silver Fern Farms.
Mr Paul Grigg gave a short address on their family history and the running of the station.

Arthur, Harrison and Paul Grigg on the day of the car rally.

“Arthur and Kirsten Grigg learnt at 20 weeks pregnant that their baby was going to need urgent surgery immediately after birth, with the technical diagnosis known as Transposition of the Great Arteries.

Five days post birth baby Harrison had open heart surgery at Starship hospital. Albeit a harrowing time, the team gave them full confidence with their level of professionalism and approach to the task at hand.
Starship is regarded as world leading when it comes to paediatric care, and we as New Zealanders are so very fortunate to have such an incredible facility available. As a result, we wish to give back to the foundation which saved our little boy’s life and has given him a bright future”
The car rally was the partnership between the Grigg Family and Ashburton Plain Rotary raised $5,000.00 for the ‘Starship Foundation’ a great result.
