This Week in Rotary
Posted By Bob Girvan
Last week, we were fortunate to hear from two outstanding young people who have benefitted from funding from our Club.
Jack Foster is a recipient of the Rotary Club of Ashburton Plains Tertiary Scholarship this year. Jack is a second year student at Lincoln University, studying towards a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Agriculture. Having grown up on the family farm at Highbank, Jack is destined to become a third-generation farmer but aims to build his knowledge and skill base following his degree by gaining experience overseas and across various farm operations. He has a good appreciation of farming as a business and may even seek to work in Agribanking in the future.
Alex Carr received funding to support her Project Abroad experience in Nepal during December last year. Alex is a Year 13 student at Ashburton College and intends to study medicine in the future. The Project Abroad experience saw Alex embark on a medical internship in Nepal where she was able to shadow medical professionals and gain an insight into the challenges within the healthcare field in a developing country. Specifically, the Rotary funding enabled Alex to fund an International Diploma in Volunteering and it was wonderful to hear back from Alex about her incredible experience.
